Note: Heard of Armchair Travel? It existed in books first, and then tv docs. Next will be virtual.
For those corporations that think this idea is a great fit for them, but it has too much upfront risk, here’s a way to test the water:
1. Buy the best tech startups in this field – you’ll probably profit regardless
2. Build small-scale working examples in places that people really want to visit
3. Keep the trials low-key enough that nobody steals the concept.
Suitable places for a trial:
- A natural wonder, like Niagara Falls
- A beautiful city centre, like Prague
- A museum or gallery that houses an iconic piece of art, such as The Louvre
- A castle, like Edinburgh Castle
Team up with the operators, build the location in 3D, as well as some surrounding streets if possible, so people can walk to it.
Have cameras everywhere, so the experience is in The Now. Use tech to blur out faces.
Make it only accessible to people using a popular VR system.
Charge an entry fee.
Observe behaviours.
